ALEC Response to Common Cause Report 2/23/12
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Shana Sally
Common Cause posted today a press release and a blog concerning ALEC and Representative Eric Cantor, along with several other elected officials. The claims made against ALEC in this report are utterly false. Common Cause routinely does not check their facts before reporting on ALEC.
ALEC distributes no cash awards to legislators. Awards are presented in the form of a plaque or a bust, and their respective “cash” costs reported in all of ALEC’s 990s as required by the IRS. This is a perfect illustration of Common Cause’s frequent misrepresentation of ALEC. Before attacking ALEC, Common Cause should check their facts.
