Tom McLaughlin comes to ALEC as an alumnus of its internship program, where he was able to work in both the policy and public affairs sides of the organization. Previously, his work has taken him to Africa as a coordinator for the Students Bridging the Information Gap NGO, as well as the to the wilds of New Jersey interning for the Christie Campaign and the Port Newark office of the International Trade Administration.
Tom is a shameless Yankee with roots in New Jersey and Massachusetts, and an avid and outspoken supporter of the Patriots (hi haters), Bruins, and Red Sox. He is a proud alumnus of Boston University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations in 2014 while being a 4-year starter and treasurer for their rugby team and a member of the International Affairs Association and Model UN team.
A veteran of nearly 9 years in the food service industry, including 2 as a bar manager and head bartender, experience has given Tom a dry sense of humor and a discerning palate for good bourbon and craft beer. When not advancing the principles of limited government, free markets and federalism, Tom can be found on the pitch playing for the Washington Rugby Football Club, hiking, skiing, or being anywhere people and excitement are found.
