Robert Ordway

Director, Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development Task Force



Robert serves as the Task Force Director of Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development. Prior to joining ALEC, he was a Washington Scholars Fellow at the Heritage Foundation and worked on the Montana Special Election race for Congress, both in 2017.

Robert received his MS in International Commerce and Policy in 2010 and his BSBA in Finance 2007, both from Valparaiso University. Before moving to DC in January, Robert owned a menswear retailer called Rusted Oak. His career also includes a decade of experience in running political campaigns, civil servant roles in state and local government as well as time in the financial services sector.

In his home state of Indiana, Robert was appointed by Mayor Jon Costas to the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) and the Town & Gown Committee for the city of Valparaiso. He volunteered and sat on the board of Hilltop Neighborhood House, an early childhood development center. Robert also volunteered for Junior Achievement of NWI by teaching financial literacy skills to kids in elementary school. Robert has completed various professional development programs such as Indiana Leadership Forum, Leadership Northwest Indiana, Hoosier Leadership Series, Valpo Chamber Leadership Academy and the Valpo Police Citizens Academy.

In his free time, Robert is a custom clothier, wardrobe consultant and runs a menswear blog called Men’s Insights. He enjoys helping other people by participating in the five pillars of a strong community: faith, education, business/labor, nonprofits, and government. He believes that teamwork is the key to achieving goals that are greater than ourselves.
