Giovanni Triana is the Coordinator for both the Free Speech and the Partnerships and Engagement Departments at the ALEC. He is a first-generation immigrant from Mexico. His family emigrated to the United States when he was five years old in order to escape poverty in 1999. He grew up in North Carolina where he played soccer, tennis and wrestled. Gio graduated from East Carolina University (ECU) in 2018, where he received a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Mathematics.
While enrolled at ECU, Giovanni served as the Community Outreach Director and Chief of Staff for the Student Government Association. In addition, he immersed himself in campus activism – providing free concealed carry classes to over 65 students and spearheading efforts to abolish restrictive speech zones at ECU, and eventually every public university in NC.
During his free time, Gio enjoys working out, playing golf, cheering on the Panthers and shooting his Springfield XDS.
