Manager of Development

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is seeking an organized, energetic, and outgoing individual to assist in growing our development operation to even higher levels of achievement in support of our missions.

 

The Manager of Development implements strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of principal partners and prospects.  Solicit prospects through personal meetings, alone or with senior staff.  Work closely with other departments to engage and solicit prospects and individual support.  Maintains tracking of portfolio of current donors and assigned prospects, and facilitates in-depth research requirements and prepares briefing materials, proposals, presentations and other documents for the Senior Vice President of Partnerships and Engagement, the Chief Executive Officer and members of the executive leadership team.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • The Manager of Development will assist in growing the ALEC donor bases and is responsible for the creation and implementation of fundraising strategies and activities (including personal visits and events).
  • Assist in a wide range of programs, including major individual gifts, foundation grants individual outreach and state coalition building.
  • Work with Policy department to integrate and leverage relationships with donors and prospects to improve involvement and funding opportunities.
  • Execute communication and marketing strategies to support donor communications and engagement
  • Assist promotional activities and communications for each ALEC event in a coordinated effort.
  • Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for a large number of diverse projects and reporting regularly
  • Responsible for the research, writing and processing of individual and grant proposal paperwork as well as assisting with donor research, outreach and event projects.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly in the areas of individual giving
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for researching prospects and (with other staff) maintaining accurate donor records; familiarity with Salesforce and iWave is highly desirable
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective major donors and interact via telephone, email, and in-person
  • Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from individuals and foundations; within the limits of donor confidentiality, candidates may be asked to provide specific examples
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed, and to travel up to 30% of the time
