ALEC Workshop: Getting the Response to the Opioid Crisis Right
Getting the Response to the Opioid Crisis Right
Today, more people are dying of drug overdoses than car accidents. And these numbers are driven mostly by opioid abuse. As state and local officials, we know we are facing a very serious crisis, an epidemic. We must all roll up our sleeves and seriously examine a variety of public policy solutions to combat this ruinous and deadly rise in substance abuse and overdose deaths. At our 44th Annual Meeting, ALEC policy specialists will bring together various perspectives in the debate over what is driving this crisis and how we can reverse it as, to date, these discussions are late in coming and, in many cases, wrongly directed. We will discuss state- and national-level response efforts from subject matter experts in the fields of prevention, criminal justice, and communications.
