Of particular importance to the agricultural industry, the Center for Disease Control states there is currently no evidence to support that the Coronavirus is transmitted through food. Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends that Americans continue to drink and use tap water as presence of the covid-19 virus has not been found in drinking water and the risk to water supplies is low.

Critical Infrastructure Sectors

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency lists 16 critical infrastructure sectors that are considered vital for the United States. Presidential Policy Directive 21 (PPD-21) advances a national policy to strengthen and maintain secure, functioning, and resilient critical infrastructure.

As states continue to balance managing the public health issue, decisionmakers are also addressing how to keep business operations moving along as best as possible. On March 19, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a helpful memo providing guidance for state and local governments on what they deem to be critical infrastructure and essential operations.

Each sector has a coordinating council that plans for emergency situations to ensure these sectors can continue to meet the country’s need. Below are the sectors related to energy, environment, and agriculture and the full list of sectors and coordinating councils is available CISA’s website.
