Senator Michael Hough is a native Marylander and was born in Silver Spring, Maryland. After he graduated high school, he entered the United States Air Force and served as a Minuteman III Missile Technician. He received his A.A from the Community College of the Air Force and B.S. in Political Science from Towson University. In addition to his service in the Air Force, Sen. Hough served as a legislative aide to Maryland State Senator Alex Mooney before entering the legislature.

In 2011, Senator Hough was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates and was named Maryland House Assistant Minority Leader in 2013. In 2015 he was elected to the Maryland State Senate where he currently represents Frederick and Carroll Counties. Sen. Hough is also an active member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and previously served as the Director of the Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development Task Force. He has supported and cosponsored legislation that focuses on reforming Maryland’s criminal justice system as well as asset forfeiture regulations.

In addition to his work, Sen. Hough serves as a member of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee and previously chaired Maryland’s Justice Reinvestment Supervision Committee. He also works as a Policy Advisor for the Faith and Freedom Coalition, a nonprofit organization that focuses on limited government, educational reform, free markets and free societies.

In his personal life, Sen. Hough is a member of the St. Francis of Assisi and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He and his wife JoeyLynn live in Brunswick, MD with their three children.
