The Energy Affordability and Reliability Act

Summary: This legislation requires the {Public Service Commission (PSC)/Public Utility Commission (PUC)/related agency} to evaluate economic impact, reliability, and other objectives in decisions affecting electricity supplies for the {State/Commonwealth} of {State}

Sec. 1. Public policy.

The {General Assembly/Senate/House} declares that it is the public policy of the {State/Commonwealth} of {State} to encourage affordable energy supplies for the electric generation sector, in order to maintain long-term affordable energy prices for consumers and industry, maintain reliable production of energy at all times, encourage economic development and promote job growth.

Sec. 2. {Public Service Commission/Public Utility Commission/Related Agency} consideration of electric generation affordability and  reliability.

In any proceeding affecting the future and current supply of electric power in {State}, the {Public Service Commission/Public Utility Commission/related agency} shall consider future fuel costs, uncertainties in future fuel costs, fuel deliverability, electric reliability, energy cost impacts on consumers and industry, job impacts, and direct and indirect economic costs and benefits.
