Policy and Non-profit Leadership Internship Program

  Spring Internships

   Summer Internships

   Fall Internships

Each spring, summer, and fall, ALEC looks for a group of hard-working, dedicated interns who will play an integral role in the work of our organization. ALEC offers the unique opportunity to interact with state legislators and private-sector representatives, who collaborate on a wide range of public-policy issues. Depending on the applicant’s area of interest, he or she will work with some of the top experts in state-based, free-market public policy, provide outreach to our members, or help spread the word about ALEC's work.

Some things you will do as an intern at ALEC...

  • Gain hands-on experience within a free-market oriented state policy organization in our Policy or Operations tracks
  • Participate in comprehensive non-profit management and economics program (spring and fall only)
  • Interact and work with more than 2,000 state legislators, businesses, and non-profit organizations from across the nation
  • Fully participate in a large ALEC conference (travel required - expenses paid - for spring and summer) - SUMMER 2010 - San Diego, CA
  • Get reimbursed for all office travel and food expenses (rules apply)
  • Get Published! Interns regularly write articles for various prominent publications including our own monthly magazine, InsideALEC. Take a look at a sample of some our interns' previous published works:

Internship opportunities are available to undergraduates, graduate students, and postgraduates. Positions are eligible for credit through the applicant's university or college, coinciding with spring, summer, and fall semester dates. Each department of the organization requires unique skills in its interns. Applications are welcomed, and internships are granted, on a "rolling" basis. You are encouraged to apply well in advance, as space is limited.
